Module I - Human Development: Meaning, Concepts, and Approaches
From the module on Human Development: Meaning, Concepts, and Approaches, I realized that human development refers to the biological and psychological development of the human being throughout the lifespan that is according to Santrock, 2002. Human development is the science that seek to understand how and why the people of all ages and circumstances change or remain the same over time. It involves studies of the man condition with its core being the capability approach. This involves Growth and Development. Growth refers to an increase in physical size of the whole body or any of its parts. It is the quantitative change in the human's body. Growth is also define by Merriam Webster as a stage in the process of growing particularly in size. While Development is the act, process or result, of developing or the state of being developed. It is also refers to a progressive increase in skill and capacity of function. It is a qualitative change in the human's functioning.
There are Major Principles of Human Development that is tackled in this module. The first one is the Development is Relatively Orderly. In this, it follows order and pattern. The Proximodistal Pattern where inward to outward, and Cephalocaudal Pattern where growth occurs from top to bottom. Development may also affect by some factors such ad environment and the nutrients of the person taking to its body. The outcomes of development process and the rate of development are likely to vary among individuals is also part of principles. Wherein development may become faster or slower compared to others and it may be affect by some factors such as environment and heredity. Development takes place Gradually because it takes time for development to happen. And the last one principle, Development as a process is a complex. It is said that human development varies from a person to a person and is highly complex process. It develops as a result of the effect of various factors influencing the growth at different stages in a lifetime of an individual..
